Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains how Elixo ("we", "our") handles information when you use the Elixo app on Android. Elixo needs no account, and we never ask for your name, address or phone number. This policy covers the Elixo app and the Google services it uses for analytics, crash reporting, remote configuration and advertising. Other apps, websites and media providers you use separately are governed by their own policies.
Information We Collect
Your media: we do not collect, receive or store your videos, music, images or documents. Elixo reads media that is already on your device so that it can list, group and play it.
Collected automatically by Google services: Firebase Analytics records how the app is used, for example which screens you open and which features you use; Firebase Crashlytics records crash reports, stack traces and the app and device state at the moment of a crash; Firebase Remote Configuration delivers app configuration; and Google Mobile Ads (AdMob) receives your device advertising identifier, IP address and ad interactions in order to serve and measure ads.
Sent by you: if you use Feedback Us or contact support, we receive the message you write and nothing else. No app version, device details or advertising identifier is attached automatically.
Network requests: Elixo uses the internet to deliver ads, send analytics and crash data, download configuration, and fetch public media catalogue information published on GitHub.
How We Use That Information
We use this information to run and improve Elixo: to keep playback and library features working, to understand which features people use, to find and fix crashes, to deliver configuration updates, to serve and measure advertising, to answer support and feedback messages, and to meet legal obligations. We do not use your media files, your Private Media contents or your listening history for advertising, and we do not use analytics data to build advertising profiles of our own.
Analytics, Crash Reports and Remote Configuration
Firebase Analytics, Firebase Crashlytics and Firebase Remote Configuration are Google services operated under Google's privacy policy at policies.google.com/privacy. Analytics data is used in aggregate to understand feature usage, crash data is used to diagnose faults, and Remote Configuration allows changes to be delivered without publishing an app update. You can reduce this collection by turning off usage and diagnostics sharing in your device Google services settings.
Advertising and Consent
Elixo displays ads supplied by Google AdMob. Ads may use your device advertising identifier, an approximate location derived from your IP address, and information about which ads are shown or tapped. Where required, Elixo shows Google's User Messaging Platform consent form before requesting personalised ads; if you decline, non-personalised ads are served instead. You can change your choices in Android Settings > Privacy > Ads, opt out of personalised advertising at adssettings.google.com, and read how Google uses advertising identifiers at policies.google.com/technologies/ads.
Information Stored On Your Device
Elixo stores the following on your device and never uploads it: your playlists and folders, playback history and Continue Watching, playback positions, Recently Added, Recently Played, Most Played, Liked items, Watch Later, the Recycle Bin, and your settings. Files you move into Private Media are moved on this device into an app-private folder, where other apps cannot see them; they are deleted when you remove them or uninstall Elixo. Clearing the app's storage or uninstalling it erases everything listed here.
Permissions We Request
Media permissions (Photos and videos, Music and audio on Android 13 and above; storage on older versions) let Elixo list and play the files you choose. Storage write access is requested only on older Android versions, to save copies of media you add. Notifications let Elixo show playback controls. The foreground service and wake lock permissions keep media playing while the app is in the background or the screen is off. Phone state permission lets Elixo pause playback when a call arrives. Internet and network state permissions are used for ads, analytics, configuration and catalogue downloads. Receive boot completed restores your Daily Reminder alarm after a restart. Each permission is requested only for the feature that needs it, and declining one disables that feature without affecting the rest of the app.
Data Sharing, Security and Retention
We do not sell or rent personal information, and we do not transmit your media files. Information collected by Google services is handled by Google under its own privacy policies and is subject to those policies. Data is sent over encrypted connections where the provider supports it. Google retains analytics and crash data for the periods described in its own documentation, and we keep messages you email us for as long as needed to answer you and to keep a record of the issue.
Your Rights and Choices
Because Elixo has no accounts, we hold no profile of you and there is nothing for us to delete on request. You stay in control of your data directly: clear the app's storage or uninstall it to erase local data; use Android Settings > Apps > Elixo to review and revoke permissions; delete your Google advertising ID or turn off ad personalisation to limit ad targeting; and turn off usage and diagnostics sharing to limit analytics. If you want to ask about data linked to your device, contact us and we will point you to the provider that holds it, including Google.
